This system provides a master key, (aka passe-partout), that can open all the locks in the system. Hierarchically inferior keys are provided too, that allow only certain locks in the system to be opened, depending on the permissions granted.

This ensures greater security for guests while providing access control for hotel staff who have to deal with tidying up the rooms.
